Autumnal Trends IRL
Fall is almost here and NYFW is in full swing.
This is such a fun time to watch what the artisans in the fashion world are sharing with their buyers.
As someone who loves to watch fashion shows, and sift through the moody meanings of their music choices and the storyline…..It can be a challenge to work out how to wear their looks IRL.
I watched a bit of the Tommy Hilfiger show online and saw a bit of Fendi and a bit of Proenza (one of my favorite brands).
I narrowed down the main vibes.
Oversized
From blazers, to tops, to slacks and jeans and boots…….oversized is in.
This style is not going to be too hard to recreate at home, as all you’ll need to do is size up on a blazer or over shirt.
Muted Tones & Nudes
Autumnal trends and the beachy vibes from the summer are transitioning into fall.
That means oversized cream knits and anything that you can really get your self covered in.
Remember when we had blanket scarves in the mid 2000s?
That’s kind of back.
Think Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen fashion.
Think Gothic Colors & Slim Fits
One thing I love about every show that I have watched so far, is their obsession with an oversized fit and their love of all black everything.
And even if the show wasn’t intentionally gothic, their silhouettes were.
The mix of fitted and oversized seems to be a trend and most silhouettes are a nod to the 90s.
Most 90s silhouettes are a bit gothic.
Neons
Neon pops of color were once again on the runway.
Fendi implemented neon’s into their show, as did other brands.
Studio 189 also did not come to play this season.
Now, this collection was Spring/Summer 2022 showing in Fall, but these prints are versatile enough to wear in colder months.
I love how studio 189 takes the assumption of art and ballet and actually incorporates modern dance into their shows.
Amazing.
Here is a photo of last year’s collection.
How to Wear the Autumnal Trends IRL
So, as always, you probably have something in your closet that you can incorporate to get this look.
Example of fit mixing: If you have oversized jeans, you’re going to want to wear a fitted top and a baggy jacket or overshirt.
The main goal is to have volume but to also have fitted elements to your outfits.
The trends are pointing backwards in time because of the recession no one wants to really talk about.
This fashion season is inspired by the DEPOP girls, the vintage lovers and the promise of wearing your summer clothes well into the colder months.
To help get into the groove of the trend, here are some of my top picks.
A green oversized sweater from the GAP.
This oversized blazer from Lord & Taylor.
This perfect 90s neon pink dress.
A pinafore dress with Chanel inspo.
This Wolf & Badger fitted top.
