Fall skincare is a huge focus after the summer months….
Fall Skincare Routine
I am not an expert in skincare, yet I have a passion for skincare and asking questions and I love to share what I find out with other people….hence, I started this blog e blog.
In today’s post I want to share with you what works for my combination oily skin as a millennial-something women and what better way to open this box of tips than to walk you through the products I use and in their application order (because navigating skincare is a lot sometimes).
Cleanser
Firstly, finding a cleanser that I like and that feels like it’s doing something to my face is a MUST. I like a slight bit of intensity as I cleanse and that is why I use ‘Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash.”
This product has all natural ingredients and is great at nourishing skin. I don’t find this face wash to be too drying upon application; if anything, it feels like it’s putting moisture back into my skin, with a bladderwrack ingredient that helps to stop irritations that your skin may be experiencing; it also boasts other powerful ingredients such as; “goldenseal, Hawaiian white ginger and essential oil of chamomile.”
Facewash like this also smells really great and natural making it feel like a mini spa session, which is something I really enjoy and you may too.
Micellar Water
Moving from facewash, I move to using Garnier’s ‘SkinActive Micellar Water, Dry & Sensitive Skin.”
I really enjoy this process because I get to slough off any additional residue that my face wash missed and this micellar water also adds in a level of hydration, which in the winter months, I love and need.
What I love about this product is that a little goes a long way. I use the micellar water in the morning and in the evening; it’s a great skin tonic that gets it right every time and does not irritate my combination oily skin.
Skincare Toner
After using my face wash and cleansing water, I apply “Thayers Alcohol-Free, Rose Petal Witch Hazel Facial Mist Toner.” This is my absolute favorite spritz to add before applying on my night serums. (Please Note: I have omitted this from my current skincare routine).
Thayers offers a really unique and earthy smell when applied and I just find it super relaxing, not to mention that my skin feels ultra hydrated after.
Tip: This is the step I do before I start winding down for the evening and I don’t immediately apply my night serums and oils until I am heading to bed.
When I am headed to bed I switch between two products on and off throughout the week. One night I use my hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid and the next night I use retinol; I will never use both together because both are really strong serums.
Serums I use during the week are, Honeymoon Glow by Farmacy (per a friends recommendation) and I could not be happier with the product. This particular product has really evened out my skin tone and I feel even lightened up darker spots on my skin with its use, which I love.
Highly recommend this product.
Retinol
My next rotating serum is RETINOL. I love a retinol serum and I wish I had started using it sooner in my skincare regime during my mid-twenties.
I think it is worth noting that when you start using retinol you should not be using it every day. It should be left for the evening, a few times a week and washed off before you start your day as it makes your skin very sensitive to the sun.
Another serum I use a few times a week for my fall skincare is, Vitamin C, great for day or night…..which is also great for anti- aging, yet can also irritate your skin if used too frequently.
Vitamin C is also great to add in with your SPF moisturizer during the day.
Each night as a seal for all the other facial products, I put on Vitamin E serum. I pick mine up from Trader Joes when I am shopping in-store; Amazon has a two pack available if shopping at Trader Joe’s is not an option for you.
I have not tried other brands of Vitamin E, so I cannot vouch for them. Please feel free to explore other product options, as I am only speaking on my experience from products I have actually used.
To close my night-time skincare routine I finish with my favorite lip balm. It’s this vanilla and lavender chapstick from Morrocan Magic and it smells amazing, goes on smoothly, lasts for hours and gives you the softest lips imaginable.
I found mine at target but you can find them online via their website or on Amazon.
Thus concludes my night time skincare routine for the late twenties to early thirties crowd.
Disclaimer: I have not found my go-to eye serum yet, and instead put the retinol and other oils and serums around my eye as preventative anti-aging treatment (eye cream has meant eye irritation for me which isn’t ideal).
Let me know if you found this skincare routine helpful in the comments section. I know that after 25, the skin does change a bit and it can feel really odd navigating your youthful skin to more mature skin and finding a routine that works.
I would love to hear if there are any products that you vibe with, and if you do try any of the products mentioned in this post, I would love to hear how you use them and how they work for your skin.
Talk to you soon.
