Creating Your Style Card Saves You Money & Time
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
Finding your style card is actually a lot of hard work.
Mine took about six months.
I completed mine on my late grams’ bday ironically.
As it so happens..life events have pulled me back from getting it posted almost a month late.
Here we go.
Why Should You Find Your Style Card?
It keeps you honest.
It keeps you fair with yourself and it doesn’t allow you to compare what you have with others.
I feel the epidemic of envy is with many as a culture — it keeps you in your lane. Focused. Appreciative of what you offer and what you have.
Allowing you to be and feel unique, yet not alone and in a lane that you can confidently own.
Full stop?
It’s great.
My teen self wishes I had found my style card sooner.
Luckily, I find with age you appreciate what you have and I found my style to be on point with how I dress, and my style card reflected myself back to me pretty well, I think.
When You Find Your Style Card
Finding your own unique style card will have you feeling less inclined to shop and more inclined to be.
You’ll feel aligned, and you won’t hold onto clothing and beauty items “just because.”
You will feel less aligned with trends, and when you look in the mirror, well..you’ll understand yourself.
So important.
Let’s Get Dark for a Second (TRIGGER WARNING!!)
If you have ever had any disordered eating habits or an eating disorder, you may want to take your time with this.
By time — I mean years and decades. There is no time stamp on healing.
Your self-image may not be as accurate or as forgiving as someone who has dealt with an ED and has now moved into a healthy relationship with food and their body image, nor may you feel safe looking at yourself through a subjective nature at this time — and that is more than okay — and there is also no need to rush.
This may be a great time to log off of this blog post.
Seek safe doctors, environments, and people before you ever take a silly blog posts advice. I mean it.
What Exactly Is a Style Card
A style card keeps your wealthiest and chicer personalities in check — while also keeping them in alignment with what God gave them.
It’s a true stepping stone to accepting yourself as you are.
What do I mean by that?
I mean, finding your skin’s undertone and your best color analysis.
Finding your unique bone structure that you were born with and recognizing your intangible essence that can’t be pinpointed — It just is.
The things that will make you feel seen and understood in yourself that no trend, no bully, and no person can take away from you.
Facts.
A great stylist is someone who will actually have your style card on hand as they help you navigate your style.
Someone who won’t bullshit you for a paycheck — but actually cares about how they make you look and feel.
When you know your style card — you will know when someone is playing you and charging you a fee.
This is more about people taking their power back.
A Style Card Break Down
What exactly are the things that you need to have on your style card?
Your color season, for one.
Knowing your color season will have you reaching for the right makeup and the correct clothing colors and helps a lot overall.
The second thing on your style card is going to be your Kibbe body type.
When you know your Kibbe body type, you know the silhouettes that work best for you — hence, not jumping on a trend as quickly (or even at all).
The final step is knowing your Kitchener Style Essence.
Your style essence is really what pulls you back into the reality of self. The first two are rough structures, and the last one understands you on a personal level.
People who work in the Kitchener method state it has more to do with your facial features. I took it as how your personality comes through, while also looking at your facial structure.
To break it down:
There are four main color seasons, and each one has three branches of its season.
When you branch into Kibbe body types, there are thirteen in total. This can take a lot of work in narrowing your body type down.
Finally, there are seven Kitchener Style Essence types.
Confused? That’s okay.
Start with your color analysis and work your way down.
There are many people (online) that help you find your style in each category.
My Personal Style Card
I am a bright winter (color season).
My Kibbe body type is “soft natural.”
As for my style essences (you get three).
Mine are, gamine, classic, and romantic.
I found it helpful in my own navigation of what works and what doesn’t.
Do I think knowing my style card would have helped me as a teen?
I think yes and no.
On one hand, it would have limited me in my self-belief of what I could try stylistically.
I never really jumped into trends growing up and I was taught to dress for my body.
On the other hand — not knowing made me navigate with my gut.
Turns out — I did a great job without a style card, but now I feel relief knowing the unknowns.
I have curves but not a classic or romantic build. I am a bit more narrow, but I am also rounded and my limbs are medium to long and proportionate.
Another thing that helps is to know how you carry extra weight. That helped me really figure out my Kibbe body type after I had narrowed it down to a few options.
Knowing I am a soft classic has opened my eyes to understanding my body structure.
Life changing.
Anyways. If you have been on the fence about your style card — Maybe look into doing one for yourself.
