Five items to update your wardrobe for fall, 2024.
I really thought about how I was going to be dressing for fall a lot this past month.
A moment of panic swept in.
It can get too comfortable dressing in a season you love.
I love summer.
To be fair, I love all of the seasons for different reasons, but I really enjoy the summer because she’s a lot more fun.
Summer is warm, moody, cooling, restful, bright, restorative, nurturing, calm, intense, and a healthy break from the colder months.
I love her in all her forms.
However, there is something about fall that really makes me happy for a lounging experience.
I think when people say they get “sick of summer” or are “ready for fall,” what they really mean, is that they are ready to be able to be socially withdrawn a bit more — to dress in layers, to feel a different pace of life, and to have a bit more routine.
Summer is so relaxed a season, that she’s not really able to offer much structure, and people need structure.
Of course, you can always find structure in any season of life, but the season of summer asks you to chill out and to not be so uptight.
By the time summer rolls around everyone needs a break from too much of the daily grind.
Identifying Any Closet Anxiety You May Have – Updating Items in Wardrobe for Fall —
Do you have closet anxiety?
I didn’t know this was a thing until this summer, but I think it is.
Recognizing that I was having complicated feelings around getting dressed was an important first step in tackling this issue.
It got me thinking about what I really liked about my summer wardrobe.
What did I like?
I liked that I had a lot of great pieces to mix and match and that having sets allowed me more freedom in how I got dressed from day to day.
Could I repeat that method in the fall?
I am sure I could.
Identifying What Was Missing in My Closet
I had to ask myself, what was missing in my wardrobe.
Comfort in jeans.
What did that look like?
I knew I wanted wide-leg, mid-rise jeans and a pair of tapered high waisted “mom jeans” that felt vintage but fit modern.
I found both.
From there, I was easily able to identify the other missing components of what I wanted to wear more this fall.
Finding your jeans, trousers, skirts — the base of any wardrobe is a great place to start when identifying what is missing from your closet.
Finding a Style Uniform
This was the missing component in piecing together my closet anxiety.
Creating a style uniform.
If getting dressed makes or breaks your mood every day (like myself), I strongly suggest putting pieces into your closet that you love and feel comfortable in — but also pieces that feel like they can go with more outfit combinations so that you can wear the same item a million times over.
Identifying these items will differ from person to person.
Sometimes you already have the items, and other times you don’t.
