In this blog post I will attempt to do a magic trick; the magic trick of making a recipe blog entry very short, concise and to the point, so that you can make this very fall, festive, apple cider mojito, quickly and without distraction.
This blog post discusses a subject matter meant for adults that are 21 years of age and up. Please drink responsibly.
MJ’s Apple Cider Mojito
Last fall I did a take on an apple cinnamon and whisky cocktail.
This year I thought it would be fun if I could do the same, but perhaps make it a little more adventurous than my last fall cocktail entry on the site.
During the spring of last year, I sought out to learn how to make a mojito and every time I tried…… I was very unimpressed with my bartending handiwork.
That was until this fall, when I finally found a mojito that I can make that does not completely suck.
In fact, the apple cider mojito was in reality very delicious.
What surprised me with the apple cider mojito?
The apple cider mojito is probably a drink I would never order while out perusing a menu, thinking it would be much too sweet.
Yet somehow with this apple cider mojito, I don’t hate it….I love it.
Please be warned that the apple cider mojito packs a pretty punch….meaning that one drink in and you may feel very much relaxed.
This apple cider mojito calls for fresh ingredients, a shaker, a glass and some apple cinnamon simple syrup.
You may think to yourself that you don’t need a shaker, and perhaps you don’t…..but I tested this out with a shaker and without a shaker and the shaker version tasted much better (in my humble opinion) .
Don’t have a shaker? Use a mason jar or a leftover glass jar with a lid you have lying around (because sustainability)……..and it’ll do the trick just the same.
Let’s get started.
Apple Cinnamon Simple Syrup Recipe
-1/4th of a green apple that has been peeled and chopped into smaller pieces… (it does not need to be finely chopped)
-1/4th cup of granulated white sugar
-1/4th cup water
-two shakes of finely ground cinnamon
-two shakes of finely ground nutmeg
-one to 1.5 shakes of finely ground cloves
Directions: Use a small saucepan on medium heat and place the apple pieces in the pan, letting them get warm (I timed about a minute).
Add in the sugar, the water and the spices.
When measuring the spices for this particular serving size of simple syrup you can add as much or as little (of the spices) as you would like……
I found that using two gentle shakes (as in, you pour one bunch of chopped spices twice from a container that has a filtered top to make sure you don’t go overboard)…..if you need particular measurement I would not go above 1/4th of a tsp for the cinnamon and nutmeg and less than 1/4th of a tsp for the cloves.
When the simply syrup looks liquified take a potato masher and press into the soft apples until they are smashed.
The apple pieces should still whole chopped pieces (not fully mashed) and let it cool in a separate glass container with a lid.

MJ’s Apple Cinnamon Mojito
– 1 tsp of lime juice
-1 shot (1.5 oz) of rum
-1 shot (1.5 oz) of apple cider
-1/2 tsp of the apple cinnamon simple syrup
-4.5 oz of club soda
-4-5 Mint Leaves
-Cinnamon Sugar Rim (optional)
-Lemon wedge to help garnish the sugar rim
Directions:
Take your shaker and place the shaker half full with ice.
Place the mint leaves in your hand and gently slap them between your hands to make sure to extract the mint leaves oils…….
Add in 1 tsp of lime juice, 1.5 oz of rum, 1.5 oz of apple cider, ½ tsp of simple syrup and 4.5 ounces of club soda.
On a separate small plate, take granulated white sugar and cinnamon and mix them together.
Take your cocktail glass and gently use the lemon wedge to coat the rim so that you can dip the glass into the cinnamon and sugar mixture.
Use the shaker and shake twice while holding the top in place. I like to do two up and down shakes before the club soda likes to alarm me that the lid will likely pop off if I do a third shake.
Remove the lid of the shaker so you can pour the ice, leaves and cocktail into your sugar rimmed cocktail glass and ENJOY.
This drink was a lot of fun to make for me and I hope that you give it a try.
Let me know in the comments if you like it.
Also, a little random heads up about the month of October……..I will try to get blogs up, but cannot promise anything as life happens.
So, in the meantime, I will leave you with this post and my previous posts until I am back with new blogs hopefully in November.
Have a great month.
