DIY Lip Masks That Rival The Beauty Brands
This claim may sound cheeky and a bit cocky, but I have to admit that as a consumer I feel like this needs to be said.
I am still salty about a lip balm/lotion/mask that I bought one spring break in 2009, in Sephora for almost $30 and a week or so later it broke through its packaging in my purse……Not only that, but this product had the audacity to leave my lips chapped to new levels of thirsty……. and did I also mention, it was almost $30?
I forgot the brand, but I never forgot the experience.
Did the purchase make me feel like I was having a luxurious college girl on spring break Sephora experience?
Yes.
Did it make me feel happy?
Yes.
But did I learn after the purchase high wore off that I had been had…….and that my lips were really chapped……way worse than they were before I slapped their product all over my lips?
Also, yes.
What did I learn here?
Stick to what works and ditch what doesn’t.
Oh, and never forget that vaseline will always reign superior to anything for your lips.
There. I said it.
Vaseline is the only thing you need to hydrate your lips well.
Fact.
Grandmother’s Everywhere Were Correct
I mean…….
Ask anyone.
Both my grandmothers swore by vaseline in their beauty regiments and I will never forget it.
Bedside bestie for your lips and a one for your purse too and a travel size and…..it fits everywhere and goes great with chapped hands on top of any lotion.
All times of year.
Vaseline is the moisturizing lip lamb for all ages and it’s really inexpensive.
It knows its value, but do you?
Imposters everywhere claim to do what vaseline can, but many fall short.
Vaseline stays steady and ready for those of us who know her value and for those of us who do not take what she has to offer for granted.
A legend really.
What Products You’ll Need
Vaseline Lip Mask
For this lip mask it’s really simple and it only calls for two actual ingredients.
The first being vaseline and the second being granulated sugar.
Please note that this particular lip mask is not at all edible.
Directions
In your reusable cosmetic round place the vaseline in to about 3/4ths leaving room at the top. Next, add the white granulated sugar with a small spoon (or a measuring spoon) and take the end of the spoon to mix the two ingredients together, doing the sugar mixing and adding gradually until you get your desired texture. For more of a punch, add a little bit of honey to lock in extra moisture….(Please note: I did not put honey into this lip mask).
Leave this lip mask on for 20 to 40 seconds and exfoliate by moving it around.
To remove the mask take a warm wash cloth and gently wipe the mask from you lips.
Use this mask on your lips to exfoliate when needed and store in your medicine cabinet at a cool temperature away from heat.
This mask is the perfect travel lip mask companion as it is more stable in warmer temps.
Coconut Honey Lip Mask
For this lip mask you’ll need three ingredients and yes, this one is edible if you so desire to lick this mask off of your lips (not advised if you want to avoid dry or chapped lips)……
The ingredients needed are coconut oil. I use this one that can be found at Trader Joes….honey and granulated white sugar.
I did try out brown sugar and found the granulation lacked a bit, so I stuck with white granulated sugar.
Directions
In your reusable cosmetic round place the vaseline in to about 3/4th’s…perhaps lower as you will be using a bit more ingredients wise…… leaving room at the top to make room for 1/4th of honey and adding in sugar. Next, add the honey gradually while next adding in the white granulated sugar with a small spoon (or a measuring spoon) and take the end of the spoon to mix the two ingredients together, do this until you get your desired texture.
Leave this lip mask on for 20 to 40 seconds and exfoliate by moving it around.
To remove the mask take a warm wash cloth and gently wipe the mask from you lips.
(Please note, the honey will dissolve added sugar so it is best to use less honey all around.)
Use this mask on your lips to exfoliate when needed and store in your medicine cabinet at a cool temperature away from heat.
Another great diy lip mask for the win.
Date Night/Night Out Lip Ready
This third diy lip mask absolutely rivals any lip mask I have ever used and it is the one I use when I want to make sure my lips are extra plump and lipstick ready.
It’s such an easy and quick lip mask to make.
This lip mask does not keep for very long, so if you decide to make this one your go-to….please note it’s better to just grab the honey and sugar in a small container and make a one-time mixture to use on the spot.
Directions
Take your desired amount of honey, make sure that it will make about one lip mask and add the granulated white sugar. You’ll want the ratio of honey to be more than the granulated white sugar, as shown in the image above.
Leave this lip mask on for 20 to 40 seconds and exfoliate by moving it around.
To remove the mask take a warm wash cloth and gently wipe the mask from you lips.
