Geek to chic is so 2020, and what I mean to say is that geek is chic and that geek is in.
I get asked a lot where I get my frames from and how to go about getting your prescription filled outside of your optometrists office. (No worries, if you’re just interested in where to find frames to add into your wardrobe without a prescription…. please follow along this very fun eyewear journey; and please feel free to sift through any information that you think fits your needs best.)
The first step in getting your prescription is to book your eye appointment.
From my understanding, you should be getting your eyes examined by your optometrist every two years; If you of course have any vision issues between then and your next two year appointment, you should pencil in as many eye appointments you feel you need in order to get any issues resolved.
The next step of course, is to have open communication with your eye doctor.
Doctors offices will likely offer you their own accommodations, as they already have a display full of frames for you to choose from (if indeed you do need a change in prescription)……
From there, it’s best to hear their sales pitch.
Most times, your insurance has built in perks ( if you do go through your optometrists office to purchase eyewear).
If indeed you do need contacts or frames after your checkup, the doctors office will always let you know your options and how they work with your insurance (and what will be out of pocket if that does come up).
My advice is to always hear what your doctors office has to say, then ask if you can make the decision at a later time (give yourself a week), so you can properly research the best options for you.
This is also the point in your visit that you can ask for a copy of your contact and eye glass prescription form.
Often, they will print a copy off for you on the spot, or you can call in and have them e-mail it to you (this copy of your eye prescription gives you the freedom to purchase your eyewear elsewhere).
Below are some of my favorite frames from Coastal.com, which is where I regularly select my new frames.

Zenni.com was a recommendation given to me by a friend and admittedly, I have not tried out Zenni as of yet, but I would hate to deny anyone additional options in where to get stellar deals on frames.
Here are some of my favorite frames from Zenni.
