Great Facial Sunscreens for Your Best Summer Yet

I have been on the hunt for great facial sunscreens and I have found them.
As someone who freckles easily (thank you to my maternal grandmother) I have some great options for sunscreen and sun-care as we enter the summer months.
Dr. Vanita Rattan is a great resource for all things sun-care and melanated skin and she can be found on YouTube. You can also purchase her skincare via her website.
Paula’s Choice SPF 50 – #1 Great Facial Sunscreens
Paula’s Choice is my number one choice for sunscreen and I will tell you why. It’s a great sunscreen, it is not greasy, does not clog pores (noncomedogenic) and can be used all over your body. Plus, it’s SPF 50 which is a must for me and all my freckles. Also, it blends in without a hitch and does not leave a white cast on your skin. This is an AMAZING skin prep essential and I have been using this since 2020. It is my absolute go-to product.
CereVe Invisible Zinc Sunscreen SPF 50 – #2 Choice
This is a mineral sunscreen that can block out UVA and UVB rays. What I love about this is that again, it does not clog your pores, you can use it on your face and your hands. Because it is a stick you can kind of use it as a mini facial experience while applying it and this is a great primer before adding your makeup. Love this product.
Hawaiian Tropic Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30
This is absolutely a summer must have. I have been trying to find an SPF 50 mineral powder with a brush applicator, but this works great –also working as a general powder. Keeping one in my bag has become a game changer.
Eucerin Age Defense SPF 50 with Hyaluronic Acid
This is not a mineral sunscreen, but I still really like it. If you want the ultimate face primer in a sunscreen, nothing is moving off of your face with this product. It goes on like a glue. To be honest, it kind of feels like a glue, but it leaves your skin feeling like you have something protecting it. The other sunscreens melt into your skin in a way that lets you feel like you are not wearing anything. This product lets you know it’s on your face. There is also no white cast with this product, and they have two options — one with oil control and one without.
My favorite Spray Sunscreen
When you’re in a pinch on days when you need protection, please trust me and invest in the Trader Joe’s SPF 50 spray sunscreen.
I have tried SunBum, Bare, and I feel like a few more, but I cannot remember, and the Trader Joes version is GOLD.
They have one for $6 that is SPF 50, and that is j just regular spray sunscreen, and a zinc spray sunscreen that is SPF 30 for $10….
So you know I bought both because….why not?
As for a physical sunscreen that isn’t spray….I still like Paula’s Choice and your regular sport sunscreen.
Remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours and after 40-45 minutes while enjoying water activities, and always read the product labels for best results and protection.
