Spring is just around the corner and when the months get warmer and the days get longer I find myself reaching for water a lot more than my usual hot beverages of tea and coffee, and really limiting how much caffeine I allow myself to take in.
As someone who has struggled to get the daily amount of water in her day to day, I have found some helpful tips for those of you who also may be in the same boat as I was.
Analyzing what you drink your water from is a helpful place to start. Does your glassware at home inspire you to want to drink the daily amount of water, or are you like me, where you were reaching for your glass, but the re-fill was tedious if you were in a different part of your home?
Finding something that you enjoy looking at that inspires you to drink more water can be half the battle, while the other half is just committing to yourself that you will pledge to drink more water. I know it sounds cheesy, but making a pledge to yourself to integrate a new habit is such a key factor.
Formulating a new habit takes work, but if you hold yourself accountable, are reasonable and understand that some sacrifice will have to come to embrace your new habit, it really is worth it and if you do it long enough, your new habit will be something you no longer have to think about.
Con’s of drinking more water? You have to pee a lot more in the beginning stages…..Like, a lot.
Plus, there is such a thing as drinking too much water, so you definitely want to be paying attention to how much water you are drinking; how often you are drinking water throughout the day and how your body feels.
Always consult your doctor before beginning any new changes, especially if you begin experiencing side effects from upping your water intake.
How much water should you be drinking a day? According to mayoclinic.org, who consulted and relayed numbers from “The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine” “determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is: 3.7 liters for adult males and 2.7 liters for adult females.”
This information is to be used to your discretion as this is a blog and not a medical website, and I have to state that to avoid any confusion as we go over tips I have found helpful to drinking my daily required water intake for my body (all bodies vary on what they need, so this is not a one size fits all approach).
The Pro’s of drinking more water? Hydration, in a word. Hydration is going to make your body function on a much higher level and your body is going to thank you. To go over actual scientific facts over what being hydrated means for you, I will link this article and you can research this further for yourself.
Very exciting if I do say so myself and now to check on how we inspire ourselves to drink more water.
Aesthetic.
Find your favorite water bottle and buy multiple so that you literally always have one on rotation. I keep one for the day and one for my nightstand.
In total, I have found that for me, having about four to five water bottles on rotation is key for me, which allows me to always have two in the dishwasher and one in the cupboard and two ready for use.
Here are some water bottles I am loving right now and perhaps you will too.
Upping ones water intake is fun. I promise.
Other ways to enjoy your new favorite beverage is to add in fruits and cucumber (cucumber is really the only veggie I subscribe to in water, but you can get creative)to infuse your water in such a way that allows you to feel adventurous while still drinking plenty H2O.
Let me know in the comments if you’re loving your water intake regime or if you plan to try to hydrate more often as the weather warms up.
Take care and talk to you soon.
