Hyperpigmentation Makeup
Hyperpigmentation makeup was not something that I had heard of until this pandemic that keeps on giving.
You know, the pandemic where we thought we would be stuck at home for two weeks?
Yea.
That one.
Well, hyperpigmentation makeup is a very real thing.
I am not saying that hyperpigmentation on one’s skin is something that should be hidden.
I am not saying that hyperpigmentation should be fought off at all costs, because it cannot be fought off.
It can only be recognized and dealt with if that is something you want to do.
A Skin Insecurity
Having brown or well melanated skin is a surefire way to land dark spots on one’s skin.
The slightest irritation can send your skin into hyperpigmentation mode.
Yes, brown skin is very sensitive and does not recover well from skin irritations and traumas as well as less pigmented skin.
Personally, I did not know this.
For as long as I have been wearing makeup and getting the occasional monthly blemish; I was left feeling like I had something to be ashamed of.
I did not.
Now I want to share with you how I cover up my hyperpigmentation, in case you have moments where you feel insecure about this as well.
Covering Up Hyperpigmentation
I have to stress that when I apply makeup I am looking to enhance my features, not fully put on a mask of makeup.
With that, you’ll find this approach to be fuller coverage, but also allowing your natural skin to show through.
I also wanted this makeup tutorial to be pretty affordable for all pocket books.
The one thing I think is the most expensive is the foundation I use.
This foundation is my most favorite of the higher to mid-range priced foundations.
That is, besides Chanel and even some Mary Kay foundations.
Don’t sleep on Mary Kay.
I am telling you.
Step 1:
After you’ve washed and prepped your face for the day, add on a primer.
I love this one by Elf cosmetics.
Remember to swipe in upwards motions. I sometimes forget, but a little reminder never hurt anyone.
Step 2:
Take out your foundation brush and apply a dime size amount of foundation to your face.
I used the number 3 brush by BH Cosmetics to apply my foundation and throughout this tutorial.
The foundation I use is kind of a double mix situation.
I have combination oily to dry skin, so I find that mixing the Fenty Beauty Matte and Hydrating in the shade “300,” works the best on my skin.
I do a stippling effect once through all over my face.
This method is done to ensure that I get even coverage.
I go over my face again with another dime size application of both foundations to get more coverage, focusing more on the areas with the hyperpigmentation.
What I love about the Fenty Beauty foundation is that it has an arsenal of shades to pick from…… making sure you have a great match, but it also gives buildable coverage.
Which I love.
Step 6:
Hyperpigmentation makeup dictates that you must at all costs, use a peach corrector.
I use the peach corrector from L.A Girl.
Apply the peach corrector to the areas that need hyperpigmentation makeup coverage.
Use the same brush you used for your foundation and stipple the product onto the skin.
Step 7:
Hyperpigmentation makeup requires that you invest in a coverup that is actually darker than your foundation.
I did not know this.
As a result, I spent most of my adult life wearing my under-eye concealer as my all-over concealer and well…….
The goal is to color correct and conceal, not brighten.
I have since learned my lesson.
To achieve peak color correction I use NYX “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop” in the shade “Neutral Tan.”
Final Steps:
Powder the area of your face that needed the hyperpigmentation makeup with your foundation brush.
I use Elf’s Perfect Finish HD Powder.
Finish with taking a damp beauty blender with a bit of powder, to clean up areas that seem to need less coverage.
And there you have it.
Hyperpigmentation makeup coverage.
After this final step, feel free to continue your makeup routine or leave it just as is.
I hope you enjoyed this blog post and found it informative and maybe a tad helpful.
Let me know what you think of the routine and if you will be giving it a try…..if you also have hyperpigmentation in places.
If you’re wanting to lighten and brighten your hyperpigmentation, check out my nighttime routine blog post.
My hyperpigmentation has become lighter since implementing those products.
Talk to you soon.
