Lip Kit Sets- Drugstore Edit
Drugstore lip kit sets are a thing.
Is it just me, or is everyone taking any and every opportunity to find new and improved ways of doing things?
It keeps the blood pumping, and it keeps the mystery of life alive (in my humble opinion).
Taking myself out on errands has become somewhat of a self-care integration, and who can blame those of us needing that break……..
Really?
The one thing that has been my escape this past year was ordering products on-line to try.
While that was fun, of the higher end items I did buy, I had desperately wished I had been able to go into Ulta or Sephora to try the product on via swatch, which you cannot do during Covid (which makes sense).
To avoid buying wrong shades of high-end products I have found another vice…..Drugstore edits.
In fact, drugstore product finds will likely be something I implement topic wise on the blog from time to time, because the dupes of higher end items are amazing, which I never thought I would say.
Growing up and as an adult I pretty much always used name brand makeup and skin care, but the older I get the more I see value in saving on what you can “dupe” and buying what you cannot “dupe.”
In essence, to splurge where needed and I love that for me.
Not to mention, that every time I go on vacation (remember the days) I ALWAYS (without fail) forget to pack a higher end product that I already own and end up in the drugstore to find a replacement (always in a quick panic)……..
So, I find value in knowing what the drugstore has to offer so that when it happens next time, I know what products work for me.
Drugstores and pharmacies actually make me think of my college days and perusing the makeup aisle in my college town (study break vice), but alas, here it is 2021, and I have been loving my drugstore finds.
Lip Kit Sets
Lip kits have been all the rage for a while, and while I did not totally get it at first……. because I am a grandma at heart…… I finally started to get into the fun.
Lip kits are about texture (or can offer a certain finish you are aiming for).
Lip kits tend to be long wear and are marketed as stamping in your own personality, which is really important.
In this blog post I will be introducing three lip trios (three products) that make really good matte lip kits and I hope you love these pairings as much as I do, because there is nothing worse than putting on a lip color and having it wear off in an hour.
Lip Product Pairings That Work
These lip trio parings were bought out of necessity, due in large part because I bought the ELF Satin Lips product last spring and did not love how it wore alone on my lips (I found it to be too drying)…….
Since I hate to let makeup go unused (and it was literally $3), especially if I love the color, I made it wor,k and making it work meant adding other product layers to get better wear out of the one product (Elf Satin Lips).
ELF and NYX products are such fun (affordable and vegan) products to play around with and I have found some of my absolute favorite everyday items, which I will likely cover in a later post (other brands included).
Today, let’s just focus on drugstore lip kits.
Lip Kit Sets – Look 1:
Lip Look 1:
The first look is something I would almost always wear on a day date or in the office, as it is more muted and neutral.
This lip would also work if you wanted to wear heavy and intense eye makeup, but I don’t really subscribe to those rules, and I tend to wear a full face (when the mood hits) and any tone of color.
Application Steps
Step 1: Hydrate your lips with a lip moisturizer and exfoliate if needed before moisturizing.
This step is something I do after I have done my daytime skin care routine (It lets the product sink into your lips, which gives the products better wear).
2: Wipe off the lip moisturizer and line your entire lip (fill her in completely) with the NYX lip pencil in the color “Rose.”
3: You’re going to want to dab on ELF’s Satin Lipstick in the color “Cider,” and after you’ve gotten some pigmentation from the lipstick, I like to go over it in a fuller sweep effect as if I am applying lipstick like normal.
4: Coat the lips in NYX Lingerie in the color “Bedtime Flirt.”
5: Always blot your lips into a tissue (you can blot and while you blot set with powder over the blotting tissue).
Look 2:
This look has a more pink and orange tint to it (in person), and I think it’s really nice to pop into the everyday category as it’s more of a springtime color. Again there are no rules.
To do this look- this lip trio uses: Lip liner by NXY in the color “Rose,” Elf’s Lip Satin in “Taffy” and NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in the color “Zurich.”
Lip Kit Look 3:
Look three is definitely my favorite of the bunch because it gives off the same coloring (almost) as my favorite Smashbox lipstick “Fig” but matte.
To get this look you’ll want to use:
NYX’s lip liner in the color “Currant Cassis”, followed by Elf’s Lip Satin in “Taffy” and topped with NYX’s Matte Lip Cream in the color “Zurich.”
In total, these color trios only use a total of six products and give you a lot of variety to switch in and out of.
Let me know if you give these a try in the comments, or what matte lip products you’re loving right now.
Talk to you soon.
