Makeup Clear Out| How to Do One
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
I will not lie to you. Makeup clear out is a task I never used to want to do.
I used to be a hoarder of makeup.
Half of the the makeup that I had was ages old and that is really bad.
I obviously have kept certain keepsake makeup items from my late Grandmother that she gifted me, but I do not use them.
I reference them.
Keeping makeup items to reference is something I actually can get on board with.
You can reference the shade, the texture, the packaging.
It really all seems so weird to hold onto certain things, but sometimes it is well worth it.
Makeup Clear Out
For me, it is really important to note what I use and what I do not use.
Even if something is expensive and I do not use it, there is usually a reason why.
I think we can sometimes guilt ourselves into thinking that because we spent all this money on a product it means we think it has to perform well and the simple truth is that, sometimes it does not perform well at all.
We need to learn to be honest when something isn’t working for us anymore.
Step 1:
So how do you find out if your makeup is expired?
Understand the packaging’s expiration date.
There is a container image on the back of packaging with a number of 12 or 24.
That number represents the number of months that there is to use the product from the date you purchased it.
If a product you have is over the expiration date, chuck it in the bin of trash and think nothing of it.
Curate Your Favorites
What are your go-to items?
If they are expired it might be time to replace them.
If you find yourself wanting to branch out and try new formulas and colors and makeup palettes, make room.
Treat your makeup drawer like a capsule wardbrobe.
Categorize Your Favorites
Categorize your favorites by need.
Every day we wake up, we either want to create a new look, keep the same look or conform to the perfect event makeup for a moment in time.
What are your go-to products?
It obviously does not have to be as black and white as that, because the point of makeup is to be inventive, so maybe you mix and match…..
But, the goal here is to have a few favorites.
Understand Categories of Makeup
Do you want a dewy look? A dewy glam look? A matte look? A summery look? Or A fall toned look? Perhaps a subtle winter look?
What are you reaching for the most?
If you had to travel tomorrow, what items would you be packing?
What is the most versatile makeup you have?
Versatile meaning, you can use it to create many looks.
Organize your Makeup
Organizing your makeup into ways that make sense for your lifestyle is always a win in my book.
Here are a few of my favorite tools to organize my makeup and perfumes with.
This luxe looking marble and acrylic makeup case on Amazon is great.
If you’re a makeup minimalist this is a great storing option.
Vintage aesthetics were in mind when Miupor created this makeup storage beauty.
For the friend who travels with everyone’s makeup needs.…… (Please don’t share makeup without sanitizing it first though!)
Travel makeup storage is so important. I am loving this nude bag from Chandelli.
Mirrors that are included in the travel bag? Yes Please. This one by Momira does not disappoint.
Finally, the classic cutie. This case from urecity is the sweetest.
Hope this helps inspire you to throw out old makeup, find cute storage options and make your life feel less cluttered.
