Twenty years ago it was 2002, and we as a society were trying to navigate the new millennium with futuristic fashion….plus, we were also leaving behind the yesteryears of the 90s.

But, contrary to popular belief, night luxe fashion is not new….(nor is it a pop of disdain at wellness culture, it’s just that after two years of the pandemic……people want to party more and think less).

In the 90s, things were properly chic, yet grungy and you could easily melt the two worlds together.

From chic updos, to fashion runway shows and red carpet events, no one really dressed terribly.

Even the grunge look had a neat aesthetic on some level.

Pre-Teen to Adult Fashion-Night Luxe Was a Thing

Watch any old Olsen Twin movie from the 90s, get a glimpse into Clueless the film and watch a stylish Winona Ryder at any red-carpet event in photos, to see that polished was something people have been doing for years.

In the early years of the 2000s, it was glamourous for teen movies and movies in general to play up big houses, great wardrobes and unattainable access to things that did not exist for people in certain career fields….

Essentially telling people who lived normal lives, that fictional characters were still able to attain a certain level of living that the viewer as a real person couldn’t attain on the same salary.

Enter in reality shows like Laguna Beach and the Simple Life…….and it was showing kids IRL having access to things people in middle class homes only dreamed about.

Which is why this trend is so hot right now….. it’s the My Sweet 16 MTV era of being a young 20 something.

Night Luxe is Giving Tumblr Glitter Aesthetic

Night luxe as a fashion trend really reminds me of the Tumblr era/It Girl YouTube era.

Glittery Eiffel tower back drops, night lit balcony photoshoots, romantic dinners in exotic places and designer labels shown in abundance.

It totally makes sense that the Tumblr fashion era is making a comeback.

The newly 21 crowd grew up seeing those images and many had to do away with their travel and party plans because of the pandemic and now these same young adults want to act out exactly what they grew up seeing.

Which makes sense to me.

It’s the Tumblr and Gossip Girl era demanding they get to attend the ball and I totally get it.

Night Luxe is For the Rich

I don’t want to be the one to say it and I luckily was not the author of that brain child……

Someone actually stated that (and I roughly quote) “Night Luxe Fashion is a way for the wealthy to distinguish themselves as haves from the have nots. “

While I agree (to the designer labels and five-star dinning), I also think Night Luxe looks better without throwing yourself over a designer label and you can narrow the look down to a few great options.

How to Wear the Night Luxe Trend

First things first.

Don’t buy into the hype of designer and instead……go and find yourself great dupes that are tailored to your body.

Anything you’d wear to a fancy girl’s night out, or to a wedding reception party or anything out of the ordinary…..wear that but turn it up to glam levels of excitement.

Night Luxe is a bit glam-gothic, so you’re going to want to wear your black, white and silver tones.

Think open back satin tops paired with a blazer and glittery satin dresses and pant suites.

Night Luxe Makeup

Night Luxe also asks you to incorporate strappy high heeled shoes, structured handbags and done up hair and make-up.

In a nutshell, the night luxe makeup look is a smoldering clean girl makeup aesthetic, but is paired with smokey eyes and nude or pink glossy lips.

Night Luxe As a Way of Being

Next, take photos of your food like the millennial generation taught you (our generation gets blamed for a lot….we can take a joke).

After that, take a bunch of photos of you living your best night luxe life, preferably with no hangover……and you’ve done it.

You’re living the Night Luxe trend.

If you’re over the age of 30, you’ve already done this and don’t need to keep up with the kids anymore.

We’re the cool aunties and mom’s now and yes, we still know how to dress and how to party.

But also, if you are over the age of 30 and want to get down like the 21 crowd, this trend is also for you.

This white pearl heart handbag with beaded pearl straps is a dream.

A great camisole is a great investment piece for the night luxe look as well.

This glitter halter top from River Island is very late 90s and early Y2K and I love it.

This dress is probably as close to the Paris Hilton 21st birthday dress that you’ll get for this price point.

These Jessica Simpson strappy sandles are kind of a night luxe dream if I may say so myself.

To finish my fashion suggestions for night luxe, may I also suggest a black oversized blazer? This one from Zara is great.
