In all reality, life is not a perky one size fits all for every aspect of life, nor is it like that for the holidays.
No one could have predicted (except astrologers did at least have some sort of an inkling) that 2020, was going to be a shit-storm of a year leaving everyone teetering on edge, at the seat of their pants and embracing the day by day as we all watched our plans change at the drop of a hat.
Lessons in the seasons and seasons in the lessons no doubt.
It can still feel odd trying to get pumped for seasonal changes and this year has left most of us leaping like children for anything that marks our brains with a promise of the future and a surprise yet at the same time feeling slightly overwhelmed or even underwhelmed.
For instance, this year I simplified my Halloween decorations to my living space and decided to add in “pockets of decoration,” since I was not feeling up to the challenge of putting away items to add in autumnal items for anyone….(it’s me….I am anyone).
The stance I took was that it is October, Fall, 2020 and Halloween.
Feeling the calling to acknowledge Halloween (one of my favorite holidays), but also not caring to put in the extra fuss because this year has already been très spooky (watches “Emily in Paris” once).
On that note I wanted to share with you how I added pockets of decoration this year, without purchasing anything but flowers (and letting them die to add in some natural autumnal decor).
Adding in little pockets of decoration not only saves you time but also space and sanity.
In in my book, clutter and mess in my living space makes my head literally spin.
When taking this approach and adding in items for a holiday, you are just looking at what space you have available and adding some holiday flair into the mix without throwing off your living spaces energy (in this house, we save that for Christmas).
Luckily, I have been pretty proactive at planning how I wanted my home to look for the season this summer, so I just added in a candle, two black fall mason jars, table placemats that are more autumnal, my sugar skull vase that once housed a succulent……..only this time, I added in dying flowers from my tall vase, letting them dry to their decorative state.
How do you decorate for Halloween normally and how did it compare to this year?
Let me know in the comments.
