Sheer Clothing is a Historically Beautiful Thing – Sheer Clothing Edit
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

Elder millennials – gather round, gather round — Sheer clothing is back and better than ever.
If you grew up partying in the early to mid-aughts- right before the club scene got oddly boring (according to people nowadays)- sheer was everywhere.
Right along with chevron prints.
It was sexy business fits, day or night.
Sheer and chevron were a sign of the times.
Sometimes sold separately and sometimes sold together.
Sheer tops and layers of sheer were a staple in stores and closets everywhere.
Sheer in the Last Millennium
Ugh. I cannot believe we left the 1900s in the dust.
She was peak problematic and forward-thinking as we entered the 2000s.
Currently, the Statue of Liberty is très shocked at her land masses demise. Even her gift-giving country of origin is singing “We takesies backsies” in French.
It’s an embarrassing time for Americans. Truly.
There was a time that was deemed interesting before we went completely stupid, and it was in the 1960s. We love that charged decade where change towards justice for Americans everywhere was the name of the game, right? I guess not everyone loved it. You’d have to be alternatively a Nazi in today’s age and a Nazi-lite in the 1960s.
Try to keep up.
Anyway, so before things got tragically worse in America, we did for a time seem to be entering a softer period of fashion, modernity, and sass — queue this Austrian designer named Gernreich, who came to America to escape the Nazis, and was like let’s just shake things up and “sheer some ish.”
His first sheer invention being a monokini — which at the time was pretty scandalous.
YSL followed suit by adding sheer layers to their clothing, releasing a monokini of their own — and here we are with the inception of modern sheer origins that even your grandma probably wore.
We love!
Check out this look in “How to Steal a Million Dollars.” I am guessing it was a Givenchy design (they worked closely with one another, and he often styled her in films).
Sheer Before Our Time – Sheer Clothing Edit
Sheer has been around for civilizations – and they used linen fabrics and silks to keep cool. I am sure there were some status symbols thrown in there with regards to the fabric and some sort of magazine to keep score of the trends because humans are wired to care about clothes, status, and wealth — idk. I can only imagine.
Sheer in the 70s & 80s
Think whimsical disco. Think Charlie’s Angels.
Vibes were carefree.
Modernized Sheer Clothing – Why It’s Revolutionary
To understand the fabric, the movement, and the story of sheer fabric is to be in a state of imagination, reality, and poise.
It really is a multifaceted way to make clothes, wear clothes, and to express oneself in clothes.
Sheer can soften, reveal, conceal, and flow with just about anything you give it.
It’s a very versatile style piece to add to your wardrobe.
