Shop Your Closet: Spring Essentials
In this blog post I talk about how to “SHOP YOUR CLOSET for your Spring Essentials” and link where you can find similar pieces that make dressing for Spring and Summer a lot less chaotic.
Spring is officially here.
Where I live the weather is still deciding between warm and cold spells, but it is warming up, so I cannot complain.
Really though, I am just here for the fully vaxxed girl pre-summer antics….as this is officially my first week that the vaccine is two weeks in and good to go……now I just want to party.
That being said, now that spring is here, it is time to roll out our warm weather favorites (if dressing for the weather is indeed your thing).
Why I Shop My Closet
This is the time of year where I always look at what I already have and see how it can be transitioned into my wardrobe and essentially, I just re-shop my closet and buy what I think I need or want, or you know…..need.
After this past stint of pandemmy I think a lot of people are looking at money differently and treating it differently; many are looking to save money versus spending money………
Check out this NBC news article that states that saving is the new world focus. https://www.nbcnews.com/business/economy/americans-are-saving-more-during-pandemic-there-s-still-huge-n1257252
With savings on our collective minds, I thought that I would kind of walk you through my favorite summer essentials that I already have in my closet; linking them with things you can buy in real time and where you can see for yourselves what I am currently into, and will be into for a really long time, because that’s the reality of one’s wardrobe…..
Why Would You Shop Your Closet?
Shopping my closet for me personally is a feeling of allowing myself to plan outfits, that also allow me to feel put together with minimal effort; I think that is such an act of self-love and also, the entire point of owning clothing is that we can use those same items for multiple occasions and weave them in and out for different looks.
Who Are You Dressing For?
I have never subscribed to the idea that we get dressed for other people and have always dressed for myself, to impress myself and so, even if no one will see me on the daily, I still try to get ready for my own creative sanity and some semblance of a daily routine.
I also just find it lifts my mood.
Moody dressers unite.
Being a moody dresser is kind of a manic way to be, but I think it allows you certain freedoms while also allowing you to have certain rules, and that is why I think it’s just as important to have your favorite staples on hand so you can play around with them day in and day out.
My Spring Closet Favorites
With that being said, I have done a roundup of my actual “closet staples” for you and have listed them with similar items below.
The first item that I adore and reach for every year, is an oversized jean button down t-shirt.
I really lucked out and somehow have my Aunts 90’s denim button down and it’s my absolute favorite.
So, if you can scour some vintage shops or a goodwill…….
Vintage (jean) oversized button downs are LIFE and I have found are always comfortable and are always in.
Here is one that looks similar in shape to the one I have, but the wash is a little darker.
In general, any oversized button down for the spring is such a quick way to run out of the door without feeling too bogged down by an actual jacket and I always find it puts most looks together strangely enough.
Oversized Button Downs
Jeans & Booties
Jeans and booties are a year round staple.
I actually did a pretty recent round up of my favorite jeans in my winter essentials post, linked below.
And the most comfortable pair of black suede booties.
Essential T-Shirts
Basic t-shirts and tank tops are also always high on my summer essentials priority list.
You can pair these items with so much stuff. Tucked into jeans, skirts, shorts and of course always the option to untuck the t-shirt.
Essential Tanks
What I love about this tank top is that it is baggy, which to me, means that you can play around a lot more with the aesthetic of the t-shirt.
If you are looking for a tank top that is form fitting, I would suggest sizing down one size to get your desired fit.
I also love the variety of colors this brand is offering for this tank. I think having two of your favorite basics are just a nice grab and go option that can be worn with so much.
Spring Accessories
Next on the basics list is just a very fun and colorful scarf (you can wear whatever color scheme you want), but I love that this scarf in particular is a really fun color that screams warmer months.
Scarves like this can add so much to a safe color schemed outfit, and it’s a quick little touch to add on as you run out of the door.
I think scarves make outfits come together, especially during seasons of weather where you are still wearing jackets and sweaters.
Classic Shorts
Next on my favorite spring to summer go-to’s is a really classic and flowy short, that can be worn high waist (giving you all the vintage summer vibes) and yet is still very comfortable; dressed up or down.
This particular short comes in other styles, but please note that lighter colors may be see through as someone reported in their customer review, however this short listed below was not a see through offender.
I have found similar shorts at H&M, Target and really anywhere. I think this short style is here to stay (fingers crossed).
Comfy Daily Slip On Shoes
On the final spring round up is a classic pair of Sperry’s.
Sperry’s last FOREVER. I think my last pair I bought lasted for YEARS.
It’s amazing what these shoes can do and they always let you look classic and put together while remaining comfortable.
Thus concludes my “shop your closet” round up faves.
As always, what items are you shopping in your closet for spring?
Are you going to be adding a few more items?
Let me know in the comments.
Talk to you soon.
