SPRING FASHION 2021-Fashion Week Edit
In this blog post I cover a select handful of SS 2021 fashion shows that go over this years fashion week, all while covering how you can incorporate these Spring Fashion 2021.
I wanted a post to mirror that you can include fashion week edits into your wardrobe seamlessly.
Fashion week was made available to the masses, thanks to Covid-19 and the Internet.
Luckily, most shows were available via YouTube and this allowed anyone who wanted to watch their favorite fashion designers work in their element, the chance to do so.
I for one, really loved that it became a bit more inclusive for the public to enjoy.
Here are some of the looks that I think will be easy to incorporate into your Spring/Summer wardrobe without looking too suspicious for runway edits, but still looking like, maybe it is a runway inspired edit.
Here we go.
The main thing I loved seeing was the monochrome look that was being infused with pops of neon by Valentino.
I will link the fashion show for you to view, right here……
It’s super important to see art in all of its forms and I hope this blog post does that for you.
Valentino SS 2021
Chanel SS 2021
Next on the fashion front list is Chanel.
What I love about this take on summer and spring from Chanel is that the vibe they present is very Chanel capsule wardrobe while also including age appropriate clothing for all of their clientele.
Chanel did an amazing job of showing their work women stance, which could be seen with sheer apron accessories to their pieces, while infusing pops of color in their stand out season print, which was an ode to 90’s street style (gentrification chic if you will), and it definitely had a working women’s vibe throughout as the show progressed.
Watching the show, you could sense the urgency that Chanel was trying to evoke emotionally in their audience by their get up and go theme; inspiring women (the largest minority affected by the pandemic, in terms of career and work) to know that life had promise and that work and style in work clothes and fashion would resume again.
YSL SS 2021
Next is Yves Saint Laurent.
The looks were mod, meets matrix meets Tim Burton if his films were mostly in the 1960’s.
I really loved the choice of set for their show, as it was truly a unique take on a set for a fashion show and their models were literally tracking sand in stiletto heels and making it look flawless while walking along a fiery path.
Silhouettes that could be seen in the YSL show were also apparent in Balmain’s SS 2021 collection, where it was really all about vintage 70’s silhouettes for pants, dresses, shirts and infusing more neon.
Balmain actually did stick a lot of neon in his collection like Valentino, which was also really neat to see. The fact that these people work in their own creative spheres and collectively agree on a cohesive theme (without knowing it) is truly beautiful, as it makes the trickle down to every day wear and style more of a conversation for the rest of us folks at home.
I feel that these shows are truly art and deserve respect and reverence as their work is truly a craft in and of itself; it takes so much vision and for the first time people like me, who normally wouldn’t see this type of show, got a taste of what that really embodies, which is really cool.
Overview
If I had to state what the overall themes in Spring and Summer fashion were from these few shows that I have mentioned above; it’s about texture, prints, monochrome, dark shaded colors infused with pops of neon and pieces that have a lot of structure (see Balmain’s shoulder pad game and Valentino’s structural pieces….both completely different in their craft, but still adding structure).
I actually have a bag linked in an upcoming post that is a complete Balenciaga SS 2021 dupe and I could not be more excited to share.
More importantly, what I found from watching these fashion shows is that it really all came down to the designers and their need to convey escapism for the viewer, while also acknowledging that normality for everyday wear was really a consideration when they were designing for their shows.
I think consumers will be relieved to know that these colourscapes and structural pieces are things you can find at every price and for every level of shopper; you can even draw inspiration from vintage.
Nothing was off limits and it was really beautiful to see that idea conveyed by people who invent the fashion culture season to season and year to year.
