Let’s talk about styling burgundy tights for spring and fall.
This is for the ladies who like burgundy tights, or want to wear them more, or just don’t understand the hype.
Spring is here – it comes in spurts.
Although, the saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers.”
Basically, the weather is right on schedule, and we love that for her.
As for me, I have been wearing burgundy a lot more since Christmas, and here we are in spring, and I still cannot get enough of my burgundy tights.
I have seen a lot of takes on how to mix in burgundy tights from this past summer for the fall season, and in order to do burgundy tights – I basically had to let the trend die down a little until I let it back into my mind.
I wanted to think about it for myself and in relation to myself.
Questions to Ask Before Participating in a Trend?
Did I actually like the tights?
Do you even like the tights?
Was it because I was seeing so many iterations of the same thing?
Are you currently suffering from burgundy tight fatigue, and now you want a pair of your own?
What is the reasoning?
For myself, I prefer to research, play, and really understand the essence of why I like something.
These steps help me get dressed in the morning.
Do you find the same is true for you?
The Meaning Behind Burgundy
The internet states that burgundy is a color associated with power, wealth, rejuvenation (and lots more things).
I am sure that is fine and well, but for me, it means something entirely different on a subconscious level, and to you – it may also mean something different.
The themes in which the colors collide within our own lives do hold meaning on levels that psychologically do make sense, but I highly doubt that you landed on a color by accident.
AKA – I doubt you were like, “I am drawn to this color because of its meaning.”
Life is a lot less driven than that sometimes – you sometimes just like what you like.
Let’s Give it Up for the Burgundy Trend
You know that scene in the Devil Wears Prada (where Andy Sachs is being taught about the color of blue her sweater is)? Then getting read to filth and educated that the color she was wearing was, in fact, cerulean blue?
Well, it’s a bit like that.
Were you on the hunt for burgundy tights? Or did it trickle down into a bin where you said — “I will take one please.”
For myself, I was not looking for them, but I like them.
Have I always loved tights? Yes. Back when Forever 21 was a mood, I remember buying bright purple tights.
Okay?
The early aughts offered some of the most tragically cool fashion moments that will live in our brains forever. A keepsake, if you will.
Style Rules I Saw That You Can Break If You Wanna!
One constant theme I kept seeing was how the Burgundy tights were usually paired within the same color family.
There were a lot of chic, tonal looks, but to make their outfits interesting, they did mix in texture.
Burgundy Tight Outfit Examples:
Tonal, but breaking with accessories.
Tonal and matching accessories.
Breaking up proportions with different colors but keeping accessories to match one half of the outfit (top or bottom).
How I Styled Burgundy Tights
I found that I liked this look when pairing the tights with a color cousin to the tights (purple/burgundy), finding a neutral top in a complimentary shade to my color season, matching one accessory to that color story (headband), and paring with burgundy tights, a deeper burgundy bag and black flats.
In the second outfit, I really wanted to embrace literally all the shades of burgundy and berry tones I had.
I loved pairing these items with the green blazer. It surprisingly tied everything together. It was actually raining, so I did, in fact, need my rain berry coat/trench, which created a really tonal look while still embracing other colors.

Styling Burgundy Tights for Spring and Fall – Are There Actually Rules?
To Recap – No. I don’t think you need to follow any rules.
You can basically just do what you want.
Styling clothing never has to follow strict guidelines or rules, but when you look at yourself, the outfit should make sense to you.
However, following style rules can make your style more subjectively digestible for others if that is how you roll. I don’t tend to lean that way.
If you are not sure about an outfit you put together, just take a photo and see if it’s translating into a language you understand about yourself to yourself.
I hope you rock those burgundy tights, bags, and shoes and wear whatever makes you feel your best.
xx,
Nikita
