Stylish Bermuda Shorts for Summer & How to Style Them

Do Stylish Bermuda shorts exist?
I think they do.
When you think of old Hollywood films and perhaps old snapshots of your grandparents, and how they looked stylish and chic in almost every photograph of downtime, they probably had on some stylish Bermuda shorts.
Bermuda shorts have been trending for a while, but I always think it takes an extra two years to make two-year-old fashion mainstream.
These shorts were making the trends list back in 2019, and I think it is safe to say….
Bermuda shorts have now gone completely mainstream in 2022.
Meaning, smaller cities and towns are probably trying to style the pieces that were hot two years ago.
Why?
Because retailers are now pushing that fashion narrative.
In the 90’s, JORTS (Bermuda length jean shorts were acceptable, but kind of nerdy)…..
Now, they are back with flair, chic and basically how they originated originally.
Speaking of hot weathered dress pants…. I am surprised the Queen’s Guard doesn’t have a stylish Bermuda shorts uniform for Europe’s current heat wave of “no, thanks.”
Weird times we are living in.
Bermuda Shorts Origins
Bermuda shorts were invented in 1914.
Personally, that is why I was always a bit weary of them.
They teetered on the edges of fancy prince portrait pants from a history book, while also looking like old American Hollywood vintage shorts.
It looked to me like a period costume piece, and I had a hard time getting on board with it.
How to Wear Bermuda Shorts
Wearing Bermuda shorts is a personal choice and still a controversial one……
Why?
Bermuda shorts are a weird conundrum.
These shorts bring on a weird understanding that you’re not fully invested in pants, nor are you fully interested in shorts.
You’re kind of like……
Half in and half out.
Are we as Bermuda shorts lovers, confused?
Yes?
I think so.
It’s the equivalent of not knowing if you want beer or dessert, so you make a Guiness Float instead.
It happens.
You are content and the rest of the world is like…….unsure about your mental stability.
It’s fine.
The Trouser Bermuda Pant
Styling a trouser like short is a fun place to start with Bermuda shorts.
It gives the fashion choice a little less chaotic energy of “what are those?”
No one is going to question a person in a nice suite.
These shorts are from Banana Republic, and I do love them.
The Trouser Bermuda Pants & a Nice Top
These Bermuda shorts from H&M rock for only $24.99
Linen Pant lovers………H&M really does have great selections on their Bermuda shorts selections.
For a similar sweater tank, look no further than this AGOLDE ribbed mélange tank top.
Long Shorts & Linen Shirts
I love this look.
Linen shirts are my jam and I wear them all summer long.
Check back for a linen shirt round-up in future.
For now, here is this oversized white button down top from ASOS.
JORTS
The finale of Bermuda shorts is the zero f*ck’s given JORTS.
The style of a rebel with a penchant for marching to the beat of their own drummer.
Do I have a pair of Jorts?
Unfortunately.
In 2009, I bought them ripped and oversized.
Today, they are in my closet waiting for their sweet return.
For me, I don’t love the “too preppy” jort look or the “too grunge” jort look.
I like it a little bit balanced.
A rip in the jeans, a nice top, a casual yet classy shoe and a nice bag make for my ultimate jort look.
This woman did this look perfectly.
For a similar look:
Check out H&M…….H&M really is coming in clutch with these clothing items.
These jorts are perfect layers of washed denim, ripped and classy jort fashion.
This classic 90’s short from Old Navy are great for people who want medium length jean shorts (a more classic short look).
For the vintage t-shirt, I strongly advise you to thrift or buy vintage.
And a fun floral duster to polish off the look.
The Bermuda Short Conclusion
I half joked in this blog post about the particular short style, but I actually do enjoy it.
If you have been on the fence about these shorts, I do hope you give them a try.
As always, I hope you found these styling ideas helpful.
I would love to hear your take on them in the comments.
