Summer dresses are often bright, light, airy and left to the idea of a season….The season of late spring and early summer.
What if I were to tell you that shopping for summer clothes was still very much a thing you could continue doing well into September and taking it well into late fall?
The idea of the look is to layer it with warmer pieces that you already have in your wardrobe.
Step 1. Queue this fun summery dress in light blue and prepare to add some much needed fall layers.

Step 2. Recognize the space in which you are being asked to layer and make this summer piece a functional fall piece.
Personally, I love the idea of a basic white t-shirt.
The trick to the white t-shirt is that it is functionally a dressier version of your basic white t-shirt, looking more blouse than tee.
I also think it’s important to try to dress summer dresses with a higher rounded neckline tee, so as to allow the v necks in many summer dresses to be allowed to shine in their full glory.
The next layer should be optional for a layer of added warmth.
This dress from Asos is already so chic on its own that if you wanted to make this look office friendly, I would add a blazer and or a leather jacket to go over this already very cool look.
Elevating the look in a way that you can tailor it from day to night and still hit all the marks, not overstepping boundaries with the day or the night.
You can find a fun yet classic jacket via the link below to this Abercrombie blaze in creamy oatmeal.
This patent leather eggshell moto jacket is such a nice departure from the all black take on leather jackets and I do find that really refreshing.
Naturally my first response for this piece was to find a black leather jacket, but this one is so unique to what you find on the daily. Check it out.
The final steps for summer to fall ready layers, is to find your unique shoe fit. I must admit this dress has me jonesing for some suede purple pumps, I cannot lie.
Playing around with the elements can help you decide which summer dress is unique to you (check in your closet first), but always start with the dress and build around it functionally, but not forgetting to have some fun.
I hope you enjoyed my take on the summer to fall dress approach and if you do decide to try this summer to fall look, please leave your photos in the comments below. I would love to see what you come up with.
