Updating A Fall Wardrobe for A 30 Something

Updating my fall wardrobe was easier this time around.
Letting go of my old clothes was not hard.
However, the one thing that had changed was my relationship to my wardrobe.
I have been fascinated by the idea of a capsule wardrobe, and if I were to be honest, I think I reach for the same items pretty regularly.
So, I think a capsule wardrobe isn’t the furthest thing away from my personal lifestyle.
I also had a long think about my twenties and how I pretty much just bought what I liked and incorporated more as time went on.
When I turned thirty, I think I embraced a lot of the styling I had in my twenties.
During the pandemic, I felt the internal shift to relearn my style because I felt more mature.
Now, in 2023, I feel I was able to re-establish the new and let go of the old.
It has been pretty liberating.
I built the bones of the wardrobe through a mix of thrifting, department, and mid-level designer shopping.
Here is what I bought.
Sweaters – Fall Wardrobe
I love cardigans.
Who doesn’t?
They are very versatile and can be worn to be dressed up or down, as t-shirt — or as a layering piece.
I went with a green and white cardigan — opting for the same two colors in the open face knit cardigan.
But, I have found some gems vintage and thrift shopping.
Then I went to Mango back in September and got this amazing contrasting knit sweater. It is so soft and cozy and will keep you warm.
From there, I added in the classics I was loving at H&M.
I love the beaded collar.
Next, I am so happy they have brought back off the shoulder sweaters. It truly is such an elegant look.
Pants
I bought new jeans.
I have bought so many pairs of denim over the past three years to become comfortable with the many silhouettes we are seeing with jeans.
These have to be my new favorites. They are PERFECT!
Old Navy has really great jeans. I discovered this in middle school. They do jeans so well.
I bought a pair in black and a pair in blue of two different styles.
Next, I bought a pair of fun slacks from Target.
I didn’t want to go crazy with pants.
Skirts
So far, I have gathered most of my long skirts from thrifting.
They are really nice — I was super impressed with what I found.
I also bought the denim jean skirt everyone is wearing and I have no regrets.
If you’re into the Y2k style — the best mini is a denim mini. I am sure every person who graduated in the early aughts had this skirt.
I know I did.
Jacket
I mostly bought my jackets last year, with a few thrifted finds this year.
However, I did find my fall 2023 dream jacket.
This jacket comes in black and tan.
I decided on the tan.
It’s faux leather and faux shearling and buttery soft.
I am OBSESSED!
Shop What Is In My Closet
I will link my fall finds here.
The point of me sharing how I shop and what I have, is so that people can see how to shop mid to low and splurge occasionally.
I plan to add a few more items, but feel very content that I can make a lot of outfits from the new items I have introduced into my closet.
What are you loving this fall?
