Daytime summer skincare routine – These are, at best, simple.
At worst – they can be complicated.
Whether you like to spend money on your skincare or you like to dabble in the drugstore skincare selections — this blog post is for you!
Simple skincare is the best skincare.
In this blog, all skincare products can vibe here.
I believe in chemicals within your skincare (I know, right) or going as natural as you like it. Do what makes you happy, boo!
I always joke that drinking Diet Coke is this violent drink that I love, where I can feel its poison and its burn, and yet I know that it is churning and burning into formaldehyde within my body – Do I care? No — let’s just start the embalming process now, shall we? Life is hard enough.
You know?
I feel the same way about skincare. Is it preventing what it says it prevents? Is the burn within reason? I say, go for it.
If you stop to think about it too much, you can put your brain through a series of questions that make you ask, “What if?”
Life is short, and the journey feels long, so we may as well enjoy it while we can.
Cleansers
I like a simple cleanser.
Remember Noxzema?
My mom used that in her twenties. I would watch her apply it in the morning and again at night. I remember thinking that the big blue tub was some kind of magic I would someday use myself.
By her thirties, she was into Mary Kay skincare, which I think is some of the best skincare on the market to this day. Like, every Mary Kay lady has the best skin – and that is not by accident. The products work.
In my own personal life, I have used tea tree oil cleansers, Mary Kay, Clinique, Cindy Crawfords brand (which actually is pretty damn good), and now I am mostly loyal to Cetaphil.
I love how inexpensive it is, how it does the job of cleaning deep within my pores, and how it generally is easy to get ahold of in any place I travel to.
That is like my main mission when using skincare. Like, if I have to go buy something in a drugstore in a pinch – what is the BEST product for me? That is my driver for loving drugstore. That, and I find it extremely important to have good products for every person who needs them, regardless of income.
A middle-class person’s skincare routine can go upwards of $800-$1,000 every four to six months (no med spa). When I realized that in my twenties, I thought that type of upkeep was nuts.
So, I try to keep mine under $400 (with an occasional med spa tool at the ready). That seems reasonable.
Cleansers I Love
Daily Moisturizer
I am a huge lover of all things hydration on my skin, especially as I get older.
My favorite creamy moisturizer is from the drugstore.
Disclaimer, I should probably be using a lighter moisturizer for my t-zone, and a heavier cream for the outer perimeter of my face (but I don’t).
Here are my top picks.
Moisturizers I Love
Sunscreen’s
The grand finale in summer skincare.
What is protecting your face, babes?
All the sunscreen.
As a “freckle faced” brown strawberry, I don’t use anything under SPF 50.
I refuse.
Here are my favorites.
Sunscreens I Love
- CVS Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50
- La Roche Pose SPF 50
- Eucerine Age Defense SPF 50
- Cera Ve Sunscreen Zinc Stick SPF 50
This is one I want to try and have not.
As you can see, daytime summer skincare is pretty laid back.
You can of course add your serums, but I would save most of that repair for nighttime routines.
I have found this routine works well for makeup free days, skin tint days and more high coverage foundations days.
What is your daytime summer skincare routine?
