Boho chic is back, baby!
Like a cool older sister *raises hand*.
Anyways.
This trend is all about flowy, effortless, chic.
Think about the undone look.
Those that get it, get it.
Boho fashion it girls were MK and Ashley Olsen, Sienna Miller, and Nicole Ritchie.
Stylist queen of Boho Fashion?
Rachel Zoe!
That is the fast list.
Runway Trends
Boho Chic has been explored for at least the last five years but within the confines of the flounce structure.
The flounce is now fully back in the wild.
Chloe has been marketing their Boho chic prowess for a while, but I also think that brands like Eli Saab work within the realms of whimsical and boho, in that specific order as their brand’s staple.
Chanel has been digging for its roots for a while as well, and bringing that 1920s swing to a lot of their silhouettes – even last summer, they really marketed their runway to be mod-inspired, bold, and billowy with color choices in their prints and textures, while not fully committing to the undone nature of a boho fit.
Where Did Boho Come From?
Boho style was created for the artists and the weirdos – starting in the 18th century and carried throughout history like a beacon of light for those who couldn’t possibly commit to the societal norms and pressures of the masses.
Or if they could commit, they could at least wear something that freed them a bit. You know?
This style was also modeled off of Romani people. Today, they are known in Europe as Travelers, who to this day get treated poorly within Europe, so if you do like this style — treat Romani people with respect and dignity if you do want to embrace this style of dressing.
The Boho style of dressing was also worn in France during the French Revolution, where a nomadic lifestyle was at the core of their society’s survival and style evolution and supported the people in their daily activities.
In modern-day society, this trend shot to fame in the 1960s and ’70s, during the sexual revolution, civil rights, and women’s rights.
