Winter Staples for 2025 – Essentials You’ll Keep for Years!
We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.
Winter Staples for 2025 from a woman who knows about staying warm in cold climates, who reaches for the same items year after year, and who can relate to your plight.
When winter comes around, we can tend to feel conflicting emotions about style and getting dressed. The pipeline to warmth, style, and even functionality can get lost in translation when the end goal is one and the same—to stay warm.
Winter staples are items that work for you on a personal level and that you rarely need to replace.
I am not going to be the person on the internet telling you to spend $425+ on a jacket or a sweater because of the quality. I have bought some amazing items for under $100 and items that are pricier and that are made terribly.
My tip is to cultivate an eye that sees the truth of an item at its core.
Also, read the reviews. If you don’t see reviews for an item, take that as a sign to try something out and be the first to leave a review.
My buying tip. If something has no reviews it doesn’t mean it’s bad, it just means no one is brave enough to try it. If it has too many amazing reviews, I wonder who is paying these people to be so unanimously joyous. Too many glowing reviews can be a sign that the vibe is indeed, off!
Winter Staples Base Layers
A simple undershirt goes a long way. I love mine. Old Navy is my favorite for quality basics. It feels like I paid much more for items than I actually did and these items last.
Layering with tights under jeans and skirts can also help keep you warmer. I love these tights from Target.
Layering workout leggings can also help keep you insulated during the colder months.
Puffer Vests
As a millennial, I tend to feel like I am back in the 7th grade because these were sought-after fashion items in School back in 1999. Everyone had one.
I know they have been all the rage for decades, especially in winter, but I finally bought one after having a milder winter here in the PNW.
When I told you that I was skeptical about buying this vest from Target (I saw it on an Instagram ad, and that is how they get you) — I had really low expectations.
What I was not expecting? The REI realness, fit, and quality of this vest. I bought it in black and on sale and drove to Idaho to get it — but it was totally worth it.
I will link similar vests below.
Coats
I have been wearing my Teddy coat a lot this year. Again, this is a milder winter so I tend to not need as much of a heavy jacket.
Long wool blend jacket.
Long puffer jackets.
Winter Boots
Loafers & Socks
I think loafers with a platform and a good grip are basically boots. Pair them with warm socks.
Socks I love.
